Ling Sun, Ph.D.
Dr. Sun has focused on the understanding of molecular mechanisms and physiology in respiratory medicine. He has special interests in studying muco-obstructive lung diseases (MOLDs), including idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis(IPF), cystic fibrosis(CF), and virus-induced lung diseases, including COVID-19 lung diseases caused by SARS-CoV-2. In addition, Dr. Sun is also working on the pathogenesis of pulmonary inflammation after acute lung injury(ALI)/acute respiratory distress syndrome(ARDS) and identifying diagnostic biomarkers for lung cancer.
Dr. Sun started working with Dr. Chen in the CF center in 2017, and since then he has developed his research projects on airway and alveolar epithelial cell homeostasis during injury and repair process, which is relevant to pulmonary fibrosis, cystic fibrosis, and Job’s Syndrome. He joined Chen’s lab as a postdoc research fellow after he got his Ph.D. degree in 2020. He has made seminal findings in identifying the mechanisms underlying the muco-obstructive pulmonary disorder in Job’s syndrome, and ES stress-mediated, Muc5b-dominated mucus hypersecretion in a mouse model of pulmonary fibrosis.
